The Shopping at Sampige Road

Shopping Travel and Getaways 08 February 2020

Occupying the heart of Malleswaram, Sampige road is most frequented by locals who head here to shop for anything and everything under the sun. Sampige Road – the wonderfully fragrant name holds a lot of memories for many Bangaloreans who grew up in and around Malleswaram. The huge Malleswaram Circle, the horses in the jataka stand, the fragrance of the bouquet shop, shoppers at 8th Cross and the temples – all this give Sampige Road a typical south Indian look and feel.

There are shops selling books, religious bric-a-brac, electronic gadgets, silk sarees, fabrics, delicious local sweets and other nondescript everyday items. It’s also the most popular flower and fruits market in the city.

The bright and buzzing 8th cross market is frequented regularly by locals for all their needs. A must visit is the famous Malleswaram old market which is located close by near the Ganesha temple.

Though there are many small retail shops, it’s the street vendors who add the special charm to this place. These vendors sell pretty much everything under the sun.

Malleswaram is one of those areas in Bangalore which has still not lost its authentic South Indian touch. It can be called one of the prominent cultural hubs in Bangalore as there are many prominent dancers, musicians and gurus here.
